Wound Care & Stitches
Cleaning, stitching, and dressing wounds — including reef cuts and surf injuries.
Cuts and scrapes are the most common reason surfers and beachgoers come to see us. In tropical water and on a coral reef, even a small cut can get infected within hours if it isn’t cleaned properly. We take wound care seriously.
Why proper cleaning matters
Coral, sea urchin fragments, sand, and bacteria from the ocean stay in the wound until they’re flushed out. Saltwater alone won’t do it. We clean wounds thoroughly with sterile saline and antiseptic, remove any debris under magnification if needed, and assess whether stitches or adhesive strips are required.
What we offer
- Deep wound cleaning and debridement
- Sutures (stitches) and adhesive wound strips
- Tetanus assessment and vaccination if needed
- Antibiotic cover for high-risk wounds
- Daily redressing while the wound heals
- Suture removal (typically 7–10 days after stitching)
If you’ve been cut on a reef, don’t wait. The earlier we clean it, the lower the chance of infection.
